What are Omega-3 fatty acids?

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential polyunsaturated fats that must be obtained from food sources.

There are three main types of omega-3 fatty acids: eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) found in fatty fish and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) found in plant oils, nuts, and seeds.

Of the three, EPA and DHA are most easily absorbed and utilized. While the body can convert ALA into EPA and DHA, the process is not very efficient. Only a limited amount of ALA is converted, and the quantity varies based on individual characteristics such as age, gender, and the presence of specific health conditions.

Omega-3 Benefits

Why is algae-based Omega-3 superior to other sources?

Fish oil is a popular source of EPA and DHA, however, it carries a number of drawbacks including sustainability concerns, potential contamination, unpleasant taste and odor.

On the other hand, plants high in ALA are not as effective as algal Omega-3 in providing EPA and DHA due to the limited conversion process.

Algal Omega-3 is a more efficient, pure, and sustainable source of EPA & DHA, making it a superior choice for those looking to supplement their diets with these essential fatty acids.

Benefits of Omega-3:

Omega-3 fatty acids are crucial components of cell membranes and play a role in regulating inflammation throughout the body.

They have been shown to:

  • Reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering triglyceride levels, decreasing blood pressure, and improving the functioning of blood vessels.
  • Reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in the eye to help protect against age-related macular degeneration - a leading cause of Omega-3 loss.
  • Support brain health by aiding in brain development and function.
  • Improve anxiety and depressive symptoms by supporting brain function and reducing inflammation.
  • Soothe joint pain by reducing the inflammation in the joints.
  • Enhance recovery following physical activity.
